Team FD take on Mam Tor

On the 21st of September myself and several members of the Feldon Dunsmore team made the journey to Castleton in the Peak District to undertake a team bonding trek.
With mountains of snacks and two dogs in tow, we started our walk in the very pretty village of Castleton and made our way up to the summit of Mam Tor also known as “The Shivering Mountain”. The Visit Peak District website had the views from the summit described as “some of the best in the country and iconic in Peak District landscape photography” , unfortunately the weather was most definitely not on our side with clouds covering all of these lovely views. I’m sure the views would have been brilliant if we had been able to see further than 10 metres in front of us!
From Mam Tor we made our way along the top of Back Tor and then onto Lose Hill Pike. Our luck changed as the day went on as the weather massively improved and by the time we reached Lose Hill Pike, we could finally capture some of the beautiful scenery we had heard so much about.
With the weather finally playing ball, we decided to take the longer route down which took us along the riverside, via Hope, back into Castleton. All in all, it took us 4 hours to complete the 8 mile loop. After a great walk, we rewarded ourself with a delicious pub lunch before heading back to Warwickshire (with one of the team having to catch a lift in a tow truck, a very enjoyable 3 hour journey home for them!).
With some steep elements, lots of sheep and beautiful views, I believe the whole team (especially our D.O.G.S) thoroughly enjoyed the day and would recommend it to anyone who fancied a light challenge on their weekend. Now why were we up and in the middle of the countryside at 8:30am on a Saturday morning with our colleagues? Well of course it was for our mental health. With the FD team growing and the work coming in thick and fast, we all want to do our best to look after our physical and mental health. Not only does walking have brilliant physical health benefits, it also has feel-good hormones which can improve your memory and problem solving ability, increase your energy and help reduce stress and anxiety. With the added benefit of a good chit chat with colleagues, the overallexperience keeps you feeling like you can take on anything that is thrown your way.
I am looking forward to our next adventure into the wilderness!
